This course gives an introduction to the three sub-fields of ethics (meta-ethics, normative ethics, and applied ethics). We discuss meta-ethics and applied ethics for approximately 3 classes each, and spend 6 classes on the major normative theories of Virtue Ethics, Deontology, and Utilitarianism. Readings include Aristotle, Kant, John Stuart Mill, Peter Singer, Bernard Williams, Judith Thomson, Nick Bostrom, and others.
